Zhena's Gypsy Tea Loose Leaf Green Tea 'Sencha'

Tea Information:
Tea: Sencha
Type: Green Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: Gypsy Tea
Purchase: Here
Description: Sencha is Japan’s most popular tea. This tea hails from Japan’s premier Sencha region, Shizuoka. Shizuoka means tranquil (Shizu) hills (oka). Our Sencha is composed of the first picked leaves of the season. The flavors that distinguish it are a perfect balance of delicate sweetness and mild astringency.
Ingredients: Rare, high grade organic Japanese Sencha leaf with perfectly balanced flavor

Steep Information:
Amount: 2 heaping tsp
Water: 500ml at 175°F
Tool: Breville One-Touch Tea Maker BTM800XL
Steep Time: 2 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: vegetal
Steeped Tea Smell: sweet, vegetal
Flavor: vegetal, a little bitter
Body: Light
Aftertaste: grassy, bitter
Liquor: pale translucent yellow-green

I added 1 minute, the same result really.

MilitiaJim insisted it reminded him of genmaichai (toasty, rice)

I don't have a strong love of green tea, and this one is not amazing enough, at least the way I prepared it, to warrant me getting it again.

I am greatful to LENA for sharing this tea with me, and her amazingly detailed notes and adorable little tupperware packaging.

Rating: 2/4 leaves

Radiance Tea House and Books Loose Leaf Green Tea 'Sencha'

Tea Information:
Tea: Sencha
Type: Green Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: Radiance Tea House and Books
Purchase: In Store, 158 West 55th Street, NY, NY
Description: Japanese teas are steamed, which gives the cup a distinct green color and sweet taste. Sencha is also high in vitamin C and is a part of Japanese way of life.

Steep Information:
Prepared after the official tasting, during the Steepster meetup and tea tasting

Tasting Notes:
From Japan

Medium body

Taste-vegetal, rough (gritty?), slightly astringent and bitter

Sorry my notes are so short and cryptic but we were having fun chatting it up. (Thanks again to everyone from Steepster for hosting this.)

Rating: I am intentionally not rating these teas as I didn't really have a chance to sit there and sip on them and think whether I would by them again, like to play with them more, although none were awful (1 leaf) or fabulous (4 leaves)
