The Jade Teapot Loose Leaf Black Tea 'Starry Night'

Tea Information:
Tea: Starry Night
Type: Black Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: The Jade Teapot
Purchase: Here
Description: Organic Assam black tea combined with natural soothing vanilla and star-shaped white tea.

Steep with water temperature of 206f degrees with a steep time of 5 minutes.

Ingredients: Organic Black Tea, White Tea, Natural Flavors

Steep Information:
Amount: 1 tsp
Water: 1 zarafina cup
Tool: Zarafina black-loose-medium
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: chocolate, nut, tea, something else I can't identify
Steeped Tea Smell: sweet black tea
Flavor: astringent, nutty, black tea
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: astringent, a touch bitter
Liquor: translucent dark reddish-brown

There was not high star frequency in the tin. I think 1/3 of my cups may get one? So the picture is a bit misleading.

The taste however is smooth and very pleasant. I very much enjoyed this tea.

I did not pick up the vanilla, I think my taste buds need a reset / recalibration :( I have been missing it while MilitiaJim has been spotting it lately.

I prepared this while running around getting ready for work. I have been trying to wake up early enough to review one tea each day before work, but I am not a morning person. Thank goodness for the zarafina, it takes care of the tea while I work on packing lunch and everything else.

Post-Steep Additives: German rock sugar
Sweet tea, hint of nuts and coco

I took a few sips and then went back to getting ready for work.

Resteep: Zarafina black-loose-medium
I started this immediately after pouring the first steep off. The second steep was the same as the first steep, after assessing this I then mixed the two together into my travel mug and then ran to the train.

Rating: 3/4 leaves

Leaf system:
1=Bleh! not again if it were free
2=Acceptable, if it were free or there were limited other tea options
3=I might purchase this tea from time to time, or select it while out
4=A staple in our cupboard from now on, I will purchase and keep purchasing

Description: Drink this tea hot, on ice or even use it over ice cream. This tea can do it all. Not to mention the wonderful tropical fruits and flowers used takes you on a vacation in a cup.
Ingredients: Coconut, hibiscus flower, rose hips, orange peel, pineapple and marigold petals

Steep Information:
Amount: entire sample
Additives: none
Water: 6 ounces filtered boiling
Tool: Mesh basket strainer in cup
Steep Time: a little over 7 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: i forgot to sniff!
Steeped Tea Smell: hibiscus
Flavor: hibiscus
Body: Full
Aftertaste:
Liquor: deep dark ruby red

I like hibiscus, and this is a hibiscus drink. I can't find the other flavors. perhaps I over-brewed it?

I was hoping for a bit of pineapple hibiscus tea or maybe pineapple coconut hibiscus tea. Instead it was all delicious juicy and tart hibiscus.

I think I need to order some of this, once my other others I have arrive and I drink some space into my cupboard. Then I can fiddle with the amount and times more.

It is very nice to look at with all the orange peels

Post-Steep Additives: German rock sugar
sweeter, less tart, more delicious

Resteep: 7 minutes was a weak hibiscus pineapple - so close!
gave it a bit longer, orange - pineapple - hibiscus DELICIOUS but still weak, but it shows me the potential of this tea!

Rating: 2/4 leaves

Leaf system:
1=Bleh! not again if it were free
2=Acceptable, if it were free or there were limited other tea options

The Jade Teapot Loose Leaf Black Tea 'Lavender Earl Grey'

Tea Information:
Tea: Lavender Earl Grey
Type: Black Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: The Jade Teapot
Purchase: Here
Description: Great morning blend of lavender and black tea.

Lavender is an average antidepressant, antispasmodic and sedative. Among being good source of Antioxidants and has a long list of beneifts. You may want to consider drinking to your health and find how good it can taste.

Ingredients: Black tea, flavor, dried lavender

Steep Information:
Amount: 3 tsp
Additives: none
Water: 1 cast iron teapot full of filtered boiling water
Tool: Cast Iron Teapot with Mesh basket strainer
Steep Time: a little over 2 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: strong lavender and bergamont
Steeped Tea Smell: mild bergamont and a hint of lavender
Flavor: smooth black tea with some bergamont and then a floral end
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: floral
Liquor: translucent light brown

This came in a cute tea tin with clear labels including the name and ingredients. I wish it had included steeping instructions!

Next time I might do 3 minutes and / or 4 tsp as it's a bit lighter than I'd like, but with all the over-steeping and burning of leaves I have been doing lightly I wanted to start light.

Instead of awakening I find it soothing.

Post-Steep Additives: none

Resteep: 3 min, weak and bitter, bleh! ok so next time 4 tsp and stick to 2 min

Rating: 2/4 leaves

Leaf system:
1=Bleh! not again if it were free
2=Acceptable, if it were free or there were limited other tea options
3=I might purchase this tea from time to time, or select it while out
4=A staple in our cupboard from now on, I will purchase and keep purchasing

The Jade Teapot Company Review

The Jade Teapot website

My first real order with them, the website was easy to use, however I had to create an account to use my coupon. That was OK with me, just an FYI.

I ordered on 3/18, and later that day I got an email confirmation that my ordered had shipped along with tracking information.

I paid via credit card

The order arrived today 3/22 well packaged with air bubbles and the tins were wrapped in tissue paper

Contents:
Chocolate Mint rooibos tea 2oz tin
Lavender Earl Grey 2 oz tin
Starry Night 2 oz tin

Also one sample of Caribbean Dream. I requested it in the comments section with my order. They have a policy of including any sample you ask for with your order so you can try flavors. The samples are about 2 cups worth and packaged in cute little sealed bags.

The Jade Teapot Loose Leaf Rooibos Tea 'Chocolate Mint'

Tea Information:
Tea: Chocolate Mint
Type: Rooibos Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: The Jade Teapot
Purchase: Here
Description: ?
Ingredients: Rooibos, Flavor, Chocolate Pieces, Cacao Pieces

Steep Information:
Amount: entire sample, 3 heaping tsp
Additives: none
Water: 6 ounces filtered boiling
Tool: Mesh basket strainer in cup
Steep Time: a little over 7 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: andes chocolate mints
Steeped Tea Smell: andes chocolate mints
Flavor: mint, woody
Body: Full
Aftertaste: mint with a hint of chocolate
Liquor: deep opaque black-red

This smelled similar to 52Teas Loose Leaf Black Tea 'Chocolate Mint Flavored Black Tea'

Both were strongly mint.

This tea has two advantages (for me) - no bitter black tea flavor, and it's rooibos (I need more caffeine free teas I love in my cupboard).

Post-Steep Additives: none

Resteep: 7 minutes, medium bodied, still the same profile, lighter coloring

Rating: 3/4 leaves

Leaf system:
1=Bleh! not again if it were free
2=Acceptable, if it were free or there were limited other tea options
3=I might purchase this tea from time to time, or select it while out

The Jade Teapot Loose Leaf Rooibos Tea 'Caramel Apple'

Tea Information:
Tea: Caramel Apple
Type: Rooibos Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: The Jade Teapot
Purchase: Here
Description: Great Sweet Rooibos tea that you will love!!
Ingredients: Rooibos, Cinnamon, Flavor, Almond Pieces, Apple Pieces

Steep Information:
Amount: 2 tsp at first, then entire sample (approx 4 tsp)
Additives: none
Water: 6 ounces filtered boiling
Tool: Mesh basket strainer in cup
Steep Time: a little over 12 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: barely a scent of caramel, and perhaps a re-heated burned caramel
Steeped Tea Smell: none
Flavor: woody rooibos
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: the burned caramel is there, like an after thought, not heavy but lightly
Liquor: dark red

After the first 7 minutes and 2 tsp of tea I found it to be a weak woody rooibos flavor, so I added the rest of the sample and steeped another 5 minutes.

I was not tasting the apple or smelling it. The cinnamon and almond surprised me as I would never have guessed they were there had they not been in the ingredient listing.

You need to like rooibos to like this tea as it is a very prominent flavor. The apple and caramel are too subtle for me.

Post-Steep Additives: 1/2 tsp German rock sugar, more caramel flavor brought out

The Jade Teapot Loose Leaf Rooibos Tea 'Caramelized Pear'

Tea Information:
Tea: Caramelized Pear
Type: Rooibos Tea
Packaging: Loose Leaf
Company: The Jade Teapot
Purchase: Here
Description: (Caffeine free)
Sweet flavorful herbal blend, with notes of honey, caramel, and fresh baked pear.
Steep with water temperature of 206f degrees with a steep time of 5 minutes.

Ingredients: Organic fair trade rooibos, organic apple bits, Marigolds, Natural Flavors

Steep Information:
Amount: 3 tsp (entire sample)
Additives: none
Water: 26 ounces filtered boiling
Tool: Cast Iron Teapot with Mesh basket strainer
Steep Time: a little over 10 minutes (7 was too weak)
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: Pears, Woody, and something else I can't quite place
Steeped Tea Smell: sweet, pears, and that odd something else
Flavor: funky (marigold?)
Body: Light
Aftertaste: sweet
Liquor: translucent reddish-orange

I realize I should have done less water, but that was the pot that was out and it needs at least that much to cover the tea.

This was a free sample from The Jade Teapot, which I really appreciate in my quest to find good caffeine free tea.

Sadly this tea is just too weird, there is that flavor I can not place, and the pear is a very light flavor, although the sweetness was wonderful, no additives needed!

Update: the pear and apple become more prominent and the tea becomes medium bodied when it cools.

Post-Steep Additives: none

Rating: 2/4 leaves

Leaf system:
1=Bleh! not again if it were free
2=Acceptable, if it were free or there were limited other tea options
3=I might purchase this tea from time to time, or select it while out
4=A staple in our cupboard from now on, I will purchase and keep purchasing
